Greens are Now Open for Play on Monday through to Friday

Letter from President Glen Little to Members on Friday 31 July

Dear Members

We have been open for bowling for several weeks now and I am pleased to report that the arrangements for playing have been working well. Members have enjoyed playing again and on several occasions the green has been full. As the situation with the virus continues to improve, we are now able to further relax the arrangements for playing bowls and are able to more fully open the clubhouse. I am pleased to detail the revised arrangements below, which will be reviewed on a weekly basis and adjusted as necessary.

Firstly, the green will be open Monday to Friday from 10:00am to 3:45pm and from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, with the exception of Tuesday morning when the green will be closed for maintenance. The arrangements for collecting mats and jacks remain as at present and we ask that members continue to wash the mats and jacks after their game.  As of Monday 3rd August there will be no fixed time slots for play and booking rinks is no longer required, but we ask that everyone ‘signs in’ using the sheet on the board outside the main club entrance door. There is free access to the rinks on a first come basis. The toilets are in operation as at present but the locker rooms remain closed. I hope these changes will encourage more members to play. If you now wish to play and need access to your bowls please contact myself.

These arrangements mean that the various sections can now resume informal play on their normal allocated days if they so wish, and the respective secretaries have been advised accordingly.

The gents will resume their Monday night wappenshaw from Monday 10rd August with last disc at 6:45pm and we hope for a good turnout.

In order to provide further informal opportunities for our members to play, we will be holding two mixed wappenshaws on Saturday 8th August and Saturday 22nd August. These will be mixed, balloted  games  of 10 ends and are open to all. The last disc will be at 1:45pm on each Saturday.  In addition there will be a gents competition on Friday 14th  August with last disc at 6:45pm. Should there be a good response to these events we will arrange further informal games over the coming weeks.

We are currently making arrangements for opening the bar and it will be open from Monday 10th August  on  Monday, Wednesday Thursday and Friday evenings from 7:00 to 9:30pm. The bar will also be open on Saturday evening between 7:00pm to 10:00pm. In order to allow social distancing we plan to use the downstairs bar. We will review the demand over the first few weeks and depending on the response we will amend the hours of opening accordingly.

I hope this update finds you all well and you are enjoying the additional freedoms of the as we slowly return to normality.  I encourage everyone to keep safe and to use the sanitisers and wipes on entry to the club and in the toilets.  Social distancing must also be maintained on the greens and within the clubhouse. In this way we can all safely enjoy playing bowls over the rest of the season and hope to see you on the green soon.

Keep Safe
